Where Do I Begin?
Are you wondering what kinds of technology skills would be good to introduce or review with your students at the start of the school year? You might want to try the following. An Introduction to Inspiration for Grades 3-6
This lesson takes you step-by-step through how to use the main tools and features of Inspiration to create a graphic organizer with notes. The sample topic is "All About Me" but you could use any classroom topic that would be meaningful to your students. At the conclusion of this lesson, it is suggested that students use this organizer and the notes they have written to go to Microsoft Word and create an "All About Me" essay.
A Review of Microsoft Word for Grades 4-6
This lesson begins by teaching students how to create folders on their personal network drive as a way to organize their files. It then uses a game of "Stump the Student" to review the basic word processing tools such as changing fonts, font size, font style, font color, centering and left justifying text, proper use of the Shift and Tab keys and the space bar, inserting, moving, and resizing clip art, and saving files to the proper location. From there the lesson goes on to demonstrate how to use "Page Setup" to change margins, page orientation, the use of Print Preview and Spell Check. Everything is presented with simple, clear directions and in some places "a script" for teachers to use that makes this lesson easy enough for any teacher to use with their students.
